The Brault Laboratory conducts all codependency and behavioral-science research in accordance with federal, state, and institutional human-subjects protections. All studies operate under IRB oversight, follow informed-consent procedures, and use trauma-informed practices designed to safeguard the emotional and psychological well-being of participants—especially individuals and families impacted by addiction, disability, and marginalized identities. All data are collected, stored, and analyzed using encrypted, access-controlled systems that comply with FERPA, HIPAA (when applicable), DPI expectations, and partner-institution data-security standards. Participation is voluntary, risk-aware, and can be paused or discontinued at any time. No identifying information is ever shared without explicit consent.
Our lab’s core commitment is to uphold participant dignity, privacy, and autonomy while generating high-quality, actionable research that strengthens clinical, educational, and community-based systems of support.
Trauma-Informed and Community Partnership Statement (Aligned with DPI, Schools and Treatment Facilities): The Brault Laboratory uses a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach when collaborating with schools, hospitals, universities, treatment providers, and community stakeholders. All interactions prioritize participant choice, emotional safety, and respect for lived experience—particularly among youth, families in crisis, survivors of trauma, and historically underserved communities. We engage partners collaboratively, transparently, and ethically, ensuring that research procedures honor local protocols, minimize disruption to services, and elevate community voices in both analysis and outcomes.
Data Privacy and Security Statement (Grant-Ready + Academic/Medical Compliance): Data privacy and security are foundational to our work. All research data are encrypted, stored on secure servers, and accessed only by authorized personnel. The Brault Laboratory complies with:
IRB and human-subjects protection standards
HIPAA (when studies involve medical partners or health data)
FERPA (in work with schools and students)
Institutional and state-level DPI data-protection requirements
Grant-funding agency data-security protocols
We strictly prohibit sharing identifiable data with outside entities unless the participant has provided written consent and such sharing is IRB-approved.
Legal/Professional Boundary Statement: The Brault Laboratory provides research, analysis, and educational materials only. We do not provide clinical, medical, therapeutic, or legal services. Individuals in crisis or requiring immediate support should seek licensed professionals or emergency services.
